WHO WE ARE

The Toucan Ridge Ecology and Education Society (T.R.E.E.S) is a small grassroots ecological conservation organization that has established a great little research and education center. The TREES field station and research and education center functions as a wildlife ecology research and education center. This small biologist-managed facility focuses on tropical ecology research and post-secondary education. However, we believe strongly that ecological conservation can only happen with community involvement. Thus we also provide a wide range of community programs to members of our community and involve locals in all aspects of our research and education initiatives as well as ecological conservation.

The TREES field station and research and education center in Belize is centrally located in the country, a short drive from the Caribbean Sea and a number of marine stations, easily accessible off the Hummingbird Highway, and yet we boast some of the highest biodiversity the country has to offer. We specialize in group hosting, particularly for University student groups, but also happily take in eco-tourism groups and individuals. Your support will help our team as they catch and monitor tropical birds, chase turtles with radio-telemetry equipment and catch and monitor bats at night.

OUR CONTEST GOALS

At T.R.E.E.S, promoting valuable research & education for wildlife conservation across Central America, as well as agricultural sustainability & community development, is our passion. We conserve by supporting the study of professional scientists and students worldwide who come to study and learn with us. Due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are desperately struggling to stay afloat & are having to turn down young future environmentalists.

Effects of the current pandemic in Belize include excessive 'slash and burn' clearing of large areas of land for farming as residents dependent on the tourism industries have lost their jobs. We need to take action before the damage to our ancient jungle landscapes and wildlife is irreversible.  We need help to continue and expand our teaching of sustainable farming methods and land management working with village leaders to curb the excessive fires and destruction especially as it begins to creep into protected land reserves. Money raised will go towards facilitating these education workshops, as well as buying lab and animal study equipment to continue our wildlife monitoring programs!

Please support us to continue giving workshops and classes and buy equipment to continue ongoing research projects in avian migratory studies and endangered mammal research and sustainable farming.
